Evolving Feebas
88Pokemon. They've been around for twelve years now, and their latest releases, Diamond and Pearl, will see them around for many more.
Though the basic skeleton of the game hasn't changed(that "gotta catch 'em all" comes to mind), each chapter in the ongoing series has added new features to the previous. Like berries. And gender for the Pokemon(in Blue/Red/Yellow, besides the Nidoran, what the h were they?). Then personality types for the Pokemon(somebody once created a team of all "Naughty" female Pokemon). And contests. The "build-your-own-base" features. And PokeBlocks. What the heck are PokeBlocks?
Glad I asked? Cuz somebody asked "How do you evolve Feebas?"
First off, I assume you actually managed to catch one of those elusive little buggers; if you don't have one, I don't think this question would be coming up. In Sapphire and Ruby(probably in Emerald as well), the world supply of Feebas lived in a river in the middle of Hoenn. And they all crowded themselves onto six spots in the river. Six random spots. And they moved whenever a new saying became cool in Dewford town. In Diamond and Pearl, they congregate on FOUR spots in a large lake. Good fishing.
Ok, so they're next to impossible to find(but once you find a nest of them just stick around until you hook a good one, hope you packed enough supplies for the fishing trip beforehand). Anyway, not only is Feebas difficult to find, it doesn't evolve like other pokemon. You could level it a hundred times and it'll still stay that same brown color, that same lumpy shape. No, the secret to evolving it lies in that lumpy shape. And PokeBlocks(Poffins in Diamond and Pearl). See, Feebas realizes it isn't the greatest looking Pokemon. And it knows you, the trainer, can help.
Now I haven't played Diamond or Pearl yet, but the method to evolve Feebas hasn't changed. In Sapphire(which I have played), you obtain a device called a PokeNav, a sort of palm pilot. One of the options on that device is called "Condition". Use that to check out your Feebas and you'll see a pie chart in the shape of a pentagon. In the upper right hand corner will be a blue circle labeled "Beauty". You want the green indicator in the center of that pie chart to extend all the way towards the blue Beauty circle(Diamond and Pearl players use whatever passes for the Pokemon condition checker and find the indicators for Beauty and how high the rating currently is).
Chances are it's at an all time low. Probably cuz it was just freshly caught. And even if you've had it for a while, it's probably still at an all time low because you're asking the question and reading this. Well, that's where those PokeBlocks/Poffins(hereafter just PokeBlocks) come in.
In case you don't already know how to get PokeBlocks, go to a contest hall and speak to somebody standing next to a weird looking machine, they'll tell you how to make 'em. Once you've got that down, what you want to do is find berries that will mix up blue PokeBlocks or PokeBlocks with blue in their flavoring. See, PokeBlocks with blue in their flavoring will up the Beauty Rating of the Pokemon that eats them. Feebas desires to be beautiful(handsome for those guy Feebas). Once you've maxed out their Beauty condition, just level them up once and they'll evolve into Milotic, a pretty tough pokemon(eh heh heh*).
A few things before you go stuffing Feebas silly with PokeBlocks. Pokemon will only eat so many PokeBlocks before they refuse to eat any more(indicated by the stars over their head on the PokeNav). Check your blocks Feel and Level before you feed them to Feebas(ok, that whole sentence sounded wrong so let me clarify). The lower the Feel number, the less likely it will add a star to the Pokemon, and the higher the Level number, the more effective it is at raising conditions. Also, PokeBlocks of only one flavor are more effective than PokeBlocks with multiple flavors. So optimally, you want Feebas to be eating low Feel, high Level, pure blue PokeBlocks. If you accidentally fill Feebas up before its beauty is maxed out, you're SOL. Good fishing. Again.
* - Get it? A "pretty", tough pokemon? AH hahahaha! ::audience groans:: No, seriously, Milotic is quite strong when compared to other pokemon of the same experience level.

I just can't max my feebas's beauty ;<
Try raising its beauty as high as you can get it, hopefully you can at least get it over 75%, and level it up once and see if that works. Two other things to keep in mind before you feed pokeblocks, try to catch at least one male and one female Feebas, or at least one female Feebas, or, a Ditto if you have access to FireRed or LeafGreen, because those will allow you to breed multiple Feebas if the first one fills up on pokeblocks but doesn't evolve.
Another thing to check is the quality of the berries you are using in your pokeblocks. Try using berries numbered past 20, preferrably berries 25-35(or 36 and up if you somehow manage to gain access to those berries) as those produce higher quality pokeblocks overall, don't worry if they're not entirely one color. Also, try different Contest Halls. Those with fewer people mixing berries are more likely to produce solid color pokeblocks, and if you're using higher numbered berries, they'll still produce decent feel pokeblocks.
Thanks for the advice (= I just figured it out that I used too low level poffins and next I'l try poffins made of pamtre berries. Think I can max the beauty this time ehe :D

Ok, Pamtre Berries. In Sapphire and Ruby, there is only one Pamtre Berry, you get it from the Berry Master's Wife by telling her the phrase: "Challenge Contest". If either of these words are not available, you may need to get a Contest Pass at the Verdanturf Contest Hall first.
DON'T use that berry, it's the only one in the game. Plant it and water it a lot, it takes 3-4 days to grow two from one and if you don't water it at least twice a day, you'll only get one when the plant blooms.
If you screwed that one up, then here's what you can do: 1. Find someone with extra Pamtre Berries. 2. Have them have one of their pokemon hold a Pamtre Berry. 3. Trade for the pokemon(don't worry if you don't have any pokemon you don't want to give up, capture a random one or see step 4). 4. Take the berry from the pokemon, and return that pokemon for the pokemon you traded away if you want your pokemon back.
Unfortunately have not thoroughly played Diamond so I cannot say how to get a Pamtre Berry in that game.
Fishing Rods: I have never caught a Feebas myself, but from those who have, they say any of the 3 fishing rods will do. I hear the old rod is the best, as you catch a lower level Feebas and can then grow it into a strong pokemon, and also, the old rod only hooks Magikarp, Tentacool, and Feebas, giving you a 33% chance of hooking a Feebas, whereas the other rods will be hooking all sorts of random pokemon in addition to the three listed here.
Entei and Darkrai? Again, I have not finished the latest Pokemon games so I cannot say about Darkrai, but as for Entei, if you're referring to an old legend from Pokemon Silver(the only Pokemon "Metallic" I played):
Entei is found in the burned out tower in the northwest corner of Ecruteak City. You will need a pokemon with Rock Smash for this part. Smash rocks until you get to the center of the first floor(not basement). There are two trainers on the first floor and some wild pokemon. Drop through the hole in the center and you will land in the basement next to three pokemon "statues".
Walk towards the statues, and they will come to life and run from you. One of those is Entei. Now comes a most time-consuming ordeal. To capture Entei, you will need to run into it by chance in the wild. Entei won't be in caves, indoors, special enclosed areas, or water, but anywhere there is grass Entei may be hiding.
It is level 40, so you'll need a level 39 pokemon for leading and a lot of Repel sprays. Also, your leader pokemon should have either a sleep-inducing move or one that prevents fleeing, and should be very fast, equipped with Quick Claw, or preferrably, both. When you encounter Entei, it will always try to flee from you, so you must get in the first attack with your sleep or flee-prevention move. Once cornered, Entei will either be asleep or fight back, so proceed to knock it down as close to one HP as you can and you know the rest.
Things to remember: Always SAVE before you enter grass, you may run into it, and if you accidentally knock it out, you will lose Entei forever. Pack before you go hunting. Ultra Balls, Fast Balls, maybe Heavy Balls, try to have 30-50 assorted PokeBalls. Repel sprays, up to 50 bottles. And finally, a pokemon with the move Fly. Here's why:
Once you've encountered Entei(or its two counterparts) once, their whereabouts will be tracked by your Pokedex. If they manage to escape you, use your flier to take you to their next location. Now, before you go charging into the grass in that area, here's ANOTHER catch, every time you change locations, so does Entei, see why this is most time consuming. You will just have to follow Entei around until you get lucky and catch it in the same place you just entered. Check your PokeDex after you land. If you're lucky; SAVE FIRST, then proceed with the capture.

Once a Pokemon fills up on blocks/poffins, they stay that way and won't eat any more. I provided contingency plans for that, such as catching at least one male and one female when you find them, so that you could breed more in such an event.
I don't know if you have Sapphire/Ruby or Diamond/Pearl, but in Sapphire, their stats were displayed on a pie chart. A condition is about 75% when the green thing is 3/4 of the way to the edge. If Feebas did not evolve when its beauty was at this mark, then you will need to max it out to the edge.
The Pamtre Berry is found in Amity Square in Hearthome City. You need to walk around with Clefairy, Pikachu, Psyduck, Drifloon, Pachirisu, Buneary, or Happiny. They will not let you in with any other pokemon. While walking check your pokemon occasionally. They will have either an accessory or a rare berry.

Emerald is different from Sapphire/Ruby. In Emerald, there is only one Contest Hall in Lilycove City. It is there you must go to obtain the Contest Pass and get "contest" in your dictionary.

Uh, you don't need the word "contest" to get a Milotic. First off, what version of Pokemon are you playing(that'll help me figure out why you can't get "contest" in your dictionary), and secondly, to get Milotic, all you have to do is feed a Feebas blue pokeblock/poffins(read article for specifics), until its beauty is either max or close to max, then level it up once.

Well, anywhere there is soil can be a good place to plant. Personally, I plant berries along routes I use daily so it's easy to water and/or check on their growth from day to day. Those pamtre berries take 96 hours to grow and require watering 3-5 times a day for 4 days(96 hours), or they'll only grow one berry. I suggest you plant them near wherever you like to hang out/train pokemon, on the most easily accesible plot of soil.

I'm playing pokemon Sapphire version, and i checked around for what berry to feed it, and everyone says i should feed it the pamtree berry. But the only way to get that berry, is to say "contest challenge" to the berry masters wife, but no matter what i do it wont go in my dictionary, is there any other berry i could feed it instead?
The phrase is "Challenge Contest". I have been looking all over, but cannot find a reason for why it is not showing in your dictionary. How far into the game are you? What optional quests have you completed/not completed?
Also, in the mean time, these berries will help you make blue blocks - Cornn, Hondew(must blend at Lilycove), Kelpsy(Verdanturf, Fallarbor, and Lilycove), Pinap(Slateport), and Bluk Berry.

Ash, level up your feebas once by sending it into battle, and it should evolve. If it didn't then you didn't get the beauty high enough.
Rax - uh, good job? Well, it is hard to find those Feebas. But then again, it is hard to find shining pokemon too. Sometimes things like that just happen in this game.

Congratulations Rax. Sometimes, it just takes time. For example, I didn't go on the hunt for those run-around legends like Entei and Latias, I simply played the game normally and eventually they came to me, and I was ready for them with Master Balls.
As for breeding new Feebas, a male or female Feebas and Ditto will produce a Feebas. Ditto swings both ways.

hmm interesting yet very true this took me about 3 feebas's to get it right so
don't worry i think if you wanna succeed just dont feed it anything it doesnt like or you will come out with a failure .but if you listen to what i have to say you should do just fine soooo .....
step 1: obtain a feebas
step 2: collect alot of dry berries and
step:3: go to hearthome city and make poffin's with the dry berries
step4: feed the mighty feebas all the berry's it can consume, then when it's
three courter's of its waat to beauty you should have no problem evolving this little guy
note. you must have a poffin case for making poffins if you are playing diamond or pearl

And, if you only have one Feebas, like I do (I stole my brother's Milotic and bred it xD) you can save right before you start upping its beauty rating. Then, if it doesn't work, just switch the game off and try again. ^^

Try creating a team with some more type differences. Water, Grass, Flying, Fire, and Electric are good types to have. Keep the Combusken, Mightyena, (Or Linoone, but not both) and Feebas. Then go out and get, like an Electrike, a Shroomish, and a Taillow. Train them to higher levels until you are close to Winona's level with all of them, especially the Electrike. Try my above idea for evolving your Feebas, and if that doesn't work, I'm sorry. Try using the Pamtre berries. I hope I helped!

okk, i had a hard time beating Winona as well, especially because of her Alteria that knows earthquake o_O
But all you need is a vibrava...it learns dragonbreath which is really good. just catch a trapinch and work ur way up there.
Also, get a good flying pokemon too. it isn't effected by earthquake.
PS- LEVEL UP UR POKEMON! u seriously can't beat her win the 20's

i had a Quiet type feebas and used Cornn berries to blend indigo pokeblocks and it only took 13 to level it up with a rare candy.

Well, for those who are wondering which berry is the best for evolving feebas: try the kelpsy. It's not hard to get, and has high level.

Thanks! This was a great deal of help in my game. I'm beginning to cook poffins (Epically failing because I'm so damn distracted ^^") and I'm nearly there to evolving my Feebas. The biggest help was the types of berries. I know you put them up. But which ones make ONLY bitter poffins/pokeblock?

ok i'm here to add that once you get feebas you can go to the berry master and give him some sayings you can look up online. one of those berries will be rare, trade a pokemon to emerald with the berry and clone it about 8-10 times. and trade them back. i suggest you use pokemon you dont care about to trade. once you got te berries back go to a contest hall mix those berries and they will be gold okeblocks with super high feel and a level of 40. anyways feed those to feebas and his beauty will skyrocket and give him a rare candy and he should evolve. once he does go to slateport and talk to the chair man with your milotic in te front of your party and he will give you a blue scarf, it's a hold item that raises beauty in contests. so have fun go to the beauty contest and win! you'll never lose with milotic.
ok well feebus is really hard to find and in pokmon platinum its the only pokemon i cant find im seriously mad at this game and it takes forever to find someone help
IF YOU NEED A DITTO BUT DON'T HAVE LEAFGREEN/FIRERED THEN DO TO THE DESERT UNDERPASS. YOU ENCOUNTER A DITTO ALMOST EVERY TIME! I got mine at level 40 :)
i mostly used a old rod and when you r trying yo evolve it just keep using pamtre berries until it evolve just make sure you dont your only one but you can easily get another one.just go to amity square and walk around your pokemon may be holding one or a item

I've seen alot of comments here about people that say they've done all of this and still haven't gotten A Milotic, so... here's some extra advice;
It helps alot if your feebas has a Modest, Mild, Rash or Quiet nature. It makes the blue pokeblocks/poffins more effective for whatever reason.

i no the anser to the shelgon part! in my game (pokemon platinum) shelgon evolves at level 45 so good luck with that i suggest teaching it some good moves, going into the wild and killing pokemon hardcor! (or you could do the exp. sharing thing for a while too)
i suggest using a good rod when looking for a feebas because it usually gets a hook and there isnt as much variety as the super rod so you have a good percentage of getting a feebas (plus you might find shinie pokemon i found shinie barbroach!)
actually shelgon evolves at level 50. MY BAD! :)
actually shelgon evolves at level 50. MY BAD! :)
i had a modest feebas and i kept giving it chesto berry poffins and the feel level got maxed out... it sucked

or a lvl 40 or 50 somthing for a milotic.
a swampert with a ice move like rollout! if you like ice type moves and you like rollout, you will love this trade.
I love trading. i have a lvl 6 milotick to trade for anything. it has surf, water pluse, takle, and somthing else i forgot (the feebas just evolved). you can ONLY TRADE IT if you have the pokemon holding a master ball...

I don't know about you guys, but I got tired of hunting for berries and planting..etc. So I raised a whole lot of money(daily battles in the Restaurant by Valor Lakefront with Ancient coin equipped) and bought the Poffins sold in Veilstone department store B1 level.... It was a little less time-consuming, plus they also have a decent level.

Ok so I am breeding a Ditto with a male Feebas(from GTS trade) because the Feebas had a nickname and I can't change it. So then every egg I hatch is ALWAYS female, Why?
in pokemon black, there are no berries, so how can feebas evolve then?

AHHH My Feebas has max beauty, i leveled it up, it didnt evolve! :( Why didn't it evolve..
To evolve Feebas in Black/White, there's a hold item called a Clear Scale if I'm not mistaken and then you trade it and it should evolve into Milotic
To evolve feebas into milotic you need to make poffins from a pamtre berry and only a pamtre berre (daimond / pearl / platinum)
